Knowledge, Understanding and Development of Self
KUDOS is a project that develops children's understanding of themselves, enabling them to have a fuller and more positive experience in school and in life. The project aligns to the values of the schools in which we work, and we tailor each KUDOS programme to fit the specific needs of schools.
KUDOS stands for Knowledge, Understanding and Development of Self.
It links student leadership, pastoral support and positive wellbeing.
The project promotes reflection, conversation, teamwork and good communication.
KUDOS is designed with reference to Strength-Based Coaching, and the project is being developed by
Jo Castro and Jonny Walker.
In 2019-20, the KUDOS project is running with Eko Trust in Newham, and with pupils from Akroydon Primary School in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.
KUDOS has developed from KAPOW, a previous project. KAPOW (Knowledge and Power of Words) supports pupils who would benefit enormously from a boost in their self-confidence, their ability to collaborate in their learning, and in their social interactions with others, and had a language rather than a leadership focus.
The first KAPOW Cohort from the Eko Trust in Newham - made up of three primary schools and an all-through SEMH school - decided they wanted to write, market and publish a book about the things that they really care about. The children devised, planned and created the book, and hosted a celebration event for family and local councillors to share their thoughts on KAPOW, on taking risks and on the importance of leadership.
KUDOS and KAPOW work best through the collaboration of three or four schools, and sessions take place in the schools. As such, it is a particularly strong project for building sustainable and authentic links between schools within local authorities, shared locales, academy trusts and teaching school networks.
We would be able to work with groups of schools in any part of the UK for this project.
The project has six whole-day sessions, the first ideally being for staff development purposes.
The sessions are co-facilitated by the project designers, Jo and Jonny.
