KUDOS

Knowledge, Understanding and Development of Self

For 2020/21, the KUDOS project has been redesigned and refocused to address the specific challenges many pupils may have faced during the lockdown.

KUDOS stands for Knowledge, Understanding and Development of Self.

We cannot teach resilience. We can describe what it is and how it might look but we cannot just show a child how to be resilient. Each individual needs to develop traits in order to develop resilience, defined as 'the ability to bounce back quickly from difficulties'. KUDOS aims to support children to develop self-awareness of traits they have which will support them to resilient, and to discover traits that they may need to focus on developing further.

KUDOS is a strong and reflective starting point. You cannot improve a child's self-esteem in one workshop, but by sensitively exploring how an individual views themselves, we can support them to build self-esteem through our interactions in the sessions, and by gently challenging their preconceived ideas of how they are viewed by others.

KUDOS takes place over six sessions, working each time with the same pupils and adults. It is best suited to Years 5 and 6 in primary, and Years 7 and 8 in secondary. The project is an effective transition project.

It could also be provided specifically for groups of more vulnerable pupils within the school - this is how the project has been running with schools in London and Yorkshire in 2019-20. We are confident facilitating sessions that may support pupils with a range of additional needs, including children in care, recently bereaved and children with unstable family circumstances.

1 - Our Values, Our Strengths

2 - Life Balance and Healthy Habits

3 - Optimism and Humour

4 - Social Competence and Emotional Intelligence

5 - Curiosity and Creativity

6 -Self-Esteem and Confidence

For participating teachers, the project will support self-reflection on

how to develop resilience in their own classrooms.

 TESTIMONIALS

"THE ATMOSPHERE WAS OPEN AND RELAXED AND JONNY CREATED A PLAYFUL AND FRIENDLY ENERGY WHICH MADE THE CHILDREN (AND MAYBE SOME ADULTS!) FEEL RELAXED AND AT EASE."

ANTHONY BERNADINE, EKO PATHWAYS SCHOOL

YOUR PATIENCE, ABILITY TO INCLUDE AND ENGAGE OUR STUDENTS IS FASCINATING. WE HAVE HAD MANY EXTERNAL AGENCIES IN SCHOOL BEFORE BUT YOUR PROGRAMME IS SOMETHING I  WOULD NOT FEEL ABLE TO REPLICATE. THIS IS BECUASE OF YOUR ABILITY TO INTERACT WITH THE CHILDREN, BUILD RAPPORT AND TRUST, BUT STILL RELATE TO THE CHILDREN IN A WAY THAT OTHER PROFESSIONALS FAIL TO DO. YOU HAVE SUCH A NATURAL WAY WITH THE CHILDREN WHICH ALLOWS THEM TO FEEL IMPORTANT, VALUED AND SECURE.
